Sore tongue and mouth burning feeling

by Karen Ocker

I have been using Stevia drops in my coffee/tea the last month. Also in some smoothie preparations( Robbs vanilla egg white and others). Last week my mouth felt like I had eaten a hot pizza and burned my tongue. It got better when I avoided it and this morning I tried it again in my coffee with the same symptoms. My Dr. and dentist examined me and found no other reason. I ended up taking Benadryl and Albuterol inhaler because I was afraid of my breathing. My pulmonary tests were worse on it.

I bought a box of stevia thinking it would be a healthy change in my diet from sugar. When I put one packet in my coffee the entire cup of coffee tasted like SALT and I couldn't drink it. Fast forward, a week later, out of boredom and with no sugar, I used the stevia again but this time in in oatmeal with 4 packets. My thinking was maybe it would taste better in oatmeal.I don't know when the headache started because I fell asleep but when I woke up for the next 8 hours I was vomiting with a headache and the tip of my tongue was on fire. My body didn't like it in the coffee I don't know what I was thinking when I thought 4x's of it would taste better. 2 days later and my stomach is not right maybe from vomiting so much.
I put the entire box in the garbage, like its a box of POISON.

Stevia and burning mouth NEW
by: Anonymous

I used Stevia for years, and so did my wife. I had severe mouth pain some years back, with canker sores and throbbing, painful teeth. No one could find the cause. After being on antibiotics for two years, I ended up having my four upper front teeth pulled and switching to a non-SLS toothpaste. That stopped the tooth pain as well as the canker sores. But the mouth pain continued. A year ago I decided it could be the Stevia, so I stopped taking it, switching to sugar instead. My mouth pain vanished.

I have no allergies whatsoever.

This week my wife told me that she too has begun to have mouth pain. She has switched from Stevia to sugar.

Stevia reaction NEW
by: Heather

I have been using stevia for about a year. A few weeks ago, I got sores on my tongue. It started out with a small patch on the tip of my tongue. It continued to itch until the whole front part of my tongue was sore and had blisters on it. My dentist had never seen anything like it. I did not think it was stevia since I had been using it for some time, but I had bought an off brand and am wondering if that is why I had a reaction. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!
